About me

I write middle grade novels, write and illustrate picture books, and am at work on a nonfiction book about the dual practice of both writing and illustrating books for young readers.

I love working with students in the classroom, and as an artist in residence have worked with K-12 students on projects integrated into curriculum. I'm big on having fun. I believe in the power of the written word and the paintbrush.

In my studio practice I make prints and paintings, and have created permanent public artworks including The Positions on the Field, portraits of ballplayers in porcelain enamel installed on the upper concourse of T-Mobile Park in Seattle. That ballpark will always be Safeco Field to me. Just saying.
