My Jim by Nancy Rawles

Based on the character Jim from Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn. My Jim tells the story of Jim's wife Sadie and their children left behind in slavery.

"Sadie's Quilt" was a collaboration between myself and three generations of African American quilt makers. I crafted the central square and the river panels on the sides. Nancy Gibson, Ann Milliam, Cynthia Milliam chose the design and pieced together the squares for the body of the quilt. The images of the hat, pipe, and knife illustrated chapters in the book, as did individual quilt squares. Color images of the quilt were used on the book's cover.
